There is more to life than the iPhone 5, as demonstrated by Sprint's new Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE smartphone, set to hit shelves on Sunday.
Priced under $100, the Victory is what Sprint called an easy choice for
people looking to step up to their first Android-powered phone."Price is often a barrier for customers who are ready to transition from a feature phone to a smartphone," Sprint Product Development Vice President David Owens said in a statement.
The Galaxy Victory has 4-inch touchscreen display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, access to Sprint's 4G LTE network, and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Samsung Galaxy Victory provides some of the high-end features of a premium Android phone with a lower price tag, according to Sprint, which is tying the device to its Everything Data plan, which start at $79.99 per month.
The new phone features a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as access to Google Wallet and Sprint ID personalization packs. The Siri-like S Voice function provides a natural-language user interface for search and user communication–users can turn the music player volume up or down, answer or reject incoming calls, shut off or snooze the alarm clock, or take a picture, simply by speaking to the phone.
The Victory's 4G LTE capabilities can be put to use in any of the growing number of cities in which Sprint is building its network. On Monday, the carrier announced its plan to bring 4G LTE coverage to more than 100 new cities over the coming months, including Chicago, Boston, New York, and Los Angeles.
Samsung's Galaxy Victory will be available beginning Sunday for $99.99 with a two-year service agreement, though customers will have to mail in a $50 rebate to enjoy the sub-$100 price tag.
