It is rumored Google and Asus, its manufacturing partner, are planning the launch of a 3G-compatible version next month.
According to an Apple Insider article, a “well placed insider who spoke with MoDaCo,” said the new version is to incorporate a “wireless radio for mobile data.” No other hardware changes are expected from the current Wi-Fi-only model, the article said. Reports have not specified if the tablet would have the ability to connect to high-speed 4G LTE networks. Sources say Asus will be ready to launch the new device in about six weeks, although a firm date has yet to be set.
Apple Insider says a 3G-compatible version of the Nexus Tablet “would go beyond Amazon’s current Kindle Fire, which is only available with Wi-Fi connectivity.”
Amazon, however, is to host a press conference Thursday “where it is expected to unveil new Kindle Fire models, which could potentially include a 3G or 4G LTE variant.”
